An Evening of Classic Big Band Swing music and Dancing featuring the Pearl Street Jive
Join us Friday, September 24, for an evening of live Big Band music and Swing dancing.
The Flatirons Jazz Orchestra is teaming up with the Pearl Street Jive dance troupe to bring you an exciting evening of classic BIG BAND SWING music and dancing. This unique show only comes to the Dickens once or twice a year.
Start with a FREE swing dance lesson at 7:00, followed by three hours of live BIG BAND jazz from 8:00 to 11:00. Only $15 at the door.
Pearl Street Jive is a competitive dance troupe that travels the country teaching and performing. They’ll get the party started with a beginner lesson, then demonstrate their moves throughout the evening.
The Flatirons Jazz Orchestra – Featuring Deborah Stafford is a traditional 18-piece BIG BAND that authentically recreates the romance and excitement of the Swing-Era, with dance music by Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton, Gene Krupa, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Diane Schuur, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich, and more. Composed of the region’s most outstanding professional musicians, and one of the finest jazz singers in the country, this music will have everyone on their feet. FJO mixes swinging classics with smoky ballads and easy-listening concert pieces; something for everyone.
Rated “Best Big Band in Denver” by CBS Local, and “One of the 10 Best Jazz Bands in Denver” by ReverbNation. American Vernacular Dance calls FJO “The Best Big Band in Colorado.”
Food
Come early for dinner. The Dickens Tavern features a variety menu of great food. My personal favorite is the Shepard’s Pie.
Parking
Parking is free and easy in the city lot just east of the Dickens.
