  • Richard has been playing cornet, and later trumpet, since he was 8. He studied at Utah State University and the University of Colorado, first in chemistry, and later in electrical engineering, receiving a Masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado.
    While at Utah State, he studied trumpet with Faye Hanson, one of Herbert Clarke’s former students, and Dr. Alvin Wardle. Recently he studied with Tom Baker, a former lead trumpet player with Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, and Tommy Dorsey. His recent trumpet playing experience includes the Lakewood Symphony, Colorado Jazz Workshop Saturday Big Band, Zing, Swing Inc., and now The Flat Irons Jazz Orchestra.
    Richard recently retired having worked his entire 50-year career in the Denver area for companies including Honeywell Medical Products, Johnson and Johnson Ultrasound, and United Launch Alliance.
